Last book finished: Slightly Scandalous by Mary Balogh. This historical romance series is my favourite Balogh series, and I’m trying to space them out a bit so that I don’t have to end it too soon. In this one, the focus is on Frejya Bedwyn, who has a complex backstory that makes her reluctance to believe she’s in love surprisingly believable. It wasn’t the best book in the series–I’m still awarding that to Slightly Wicked, although I’m prepared to have that opinion changed when we finally get Wulf’s story–but it’s still a great historical romance, with vivid characters who make sense even when they’re being human and making poor choices.
Current read: Still working on Russian History: A Very Short Introduction. That may be my status forever. After seeing the new Star Wars, my Kindle read became Aftermath by Chuck Wendig, to fill in a few gaps between original and new movies. The writing style isn’t really my thing, but the story is rolling along and it’s not too distracting.
Chimera continues to be fantastic, and I’ll probably have it finished tomorrow. I still can’t call where it’s going or how it’s going to wrap up, but Grant’s talent for ramping up the tension and throwing curve-balls at the reader is making this a hard one to put down.
Next read: There was a little incident last week, where I want to the library to pick up a hold on a recipe book and somehow emerged with three YA novels in hand as well. So I should probably read something from that stack before they’re all due back. I’ve also got a wealth of romances to choose from on my Kindle – new Courtney Milan, new KJ Charles, and a bunch of book recs that I couldn’t resist. At least the holidays are coming up and I’ll have some solid reading time!
